Walgreens 2/14 ad

I have one word that comes to mind when I saw the Walgreens ad this week: LAME!  If I am in the area I might stop in for a few things- like the Skippy Peanut Butter 2/$4 and use my "Buy 2 PB, get a loaf of bread free" coupon.  I also have some Degree/Dove coupons to use with their $2.49 in-ad coupon.

I get these tips from other blogs and their ads are bigger and have lower prices, so I convert to Hawaii prices and only leave what is included in our ad.  Don't forget that Foodland catalina on certain Kellogg's cereal and Target is having some gift card deals when you buy Pampers, so don't use those coupons here.  Save your P&G product receipts too!

Walgreens- filler items

Some of the basic rules with Walgreens Register Rewards (RR) is that you have to have at least the same number of items as RRs.  You also can't get a RR back if you just used the same brand RR to pay for the transaction, which is why you might want to do more than one transaction in each trip.

The other rule I haven't experienced is that the RR can't cover any of the tax and must be a positive amount (they aren't going to hand you back money).  Until last week-- I had 5 items for $.99 each and a $1 off coupon and 2- $2 in RR, but the second RR wouldn't go through until I went and got another filler item to bring it back to the positive side again.  Luckily, candy was $.47 so I just grabbed one of those.

Besides, you deserve a reward for such excellent deal shopping!

Walgreens transactions tip

Since I never know how often I will make it to Walgreens and I'd hate to waste a Register Reward (they expire in 2 weeks), I've figured out that I need to do at least 2 transactions during each trip.   Anything that will get you a RR needs to be done in the first transaction, as long as you aren't doing more items than it requires to get 1 RR.  I match with any coupons for those items and get the RRs at the end after paying.

If you are doing a second set of the same RR items do it in a separate transaction.  Example- if you get $2 RR back for an item you only have to buy 1 of, do it in the first purchase and if you want another one, do a second transaction to get both RRs.  They won't give you 2 RRs for buying both in the first transaction- you will only get one.

The last transaction is coupon-only items and non-coupon sale items.  This way I can pay with all my RRs that I just got back (as long as there are an equal or above amount of items for the number of RRs used) and not have to worry about when they expire.  Then just pay the remaining balance.

This is where you have to be a little prepared- make one list for RR items keep the coupons to match with it and then non-RR items and which coupons to match.

Savvy Saturday- Walgreens spotlight

Thanks to a post I found, I was able to get Theraflu (2/$10) and Triaminic (2/$11) in separate transactions and get $5 off each transaction thanks to Sunday's paper so it was $2.50 for each Theraflu and $2.75 for each Triaminic or vice versa (can't remember exactly- town headache!).  Then I got back $8 in Register Rewards (RR) to use on free products later, and it's like getting those four items at a total of  $2.50 (before tax)!

Like I mentioned before, don't use an RR when buying something that should give you back an RR- it won't print.  And the only restriction on using the RR is that you can't use all of them on one item, there has to be at least as many items as RRs.
