Some of the basic rules with Walgreens Register Rewards (RR) is that you have to have at least the same number of items as RRs. You also can't get a RR back if you just used the same brand RR to pay for the transaction, which is why you might want to do more than one transaction in each trip.
The other rule I haven't experienced is that the RR can't cover any of the tax and must be a positive amount (they aren't going to hand you back money). Until last week-- I had 5 items for $.99 each and a $1 off coupon and 2- $2 in RR, but the second RR wouldn't go through until I went and got another filler item to bring it back to the positive side again. Luckily, candy was $.47 so I just grabbed one of those.
