"Hubby did AWESOME at Walgreens today. Thought I'd share. The picture is what we got today with totaled reciepts of $5.05.  And he ALSO walked away with the $4 RR!

Super Savings for Savvy Saturday!

For those that have do or don't have kids, you'll notice many posts and announcements are given for baby items that are on sale.  It's just plain expensive to provide for a child if you let it.

I never used coupons in my daughters first 10 months of life, and have seen a big difference while I get ready for the baby on the way! I've been watching the Similac sales and diaper sales to accumulate.  I only have 8 weeks (or less) to be ready.   I finally found a great sale to use my $2 off Similac coupons on.  Target has their Similac (23.2 oz) formula for $21 and with the coupon it came to $19.   Formula is HARDLY under $25, even when you buy it at Costco.  I stocked up!

I also noticed my diaper coupons were expiring soon, so I loaded up on more Size 1's.  It was a successful trip to target with:

3 (23.2 oz) Similac formula
+ 1 box of Size 1 (92 diapers)
+ 1 plastic container
+ 1 box of envelopes
+1 pkg of tissue paper (for wrapping and gift bags)
+ 4 Herbal Essense conditioners (used my rain check and $1 off coupon =  $1.50)
+ 2 gerber toddler snacks (used my $.55 off when you buy 2, sale was 2 for $4 so it was $3.45 for two!)
- $10 accumulated gift card from past shopping trips!

All for the grand total of $81.04

I am pretty excited about this and just wanted to share how much it can save to accumulate and hold on to all your coupons.  You never know what you may need to stock up on!!

** One key to remember is that Safeway gives rainchecks at the register.  When the cashiers ask, "Did you find everything you were looking for?"  Don't be afraid to let them know an item or two that you were missing to get the sale price when it's in stock.  Our reader gets to go back and get 20 boxes of those Quaker Oat Squares for the same deal that she would have today, if it were there.**

The deal was so great, she couldn't help making a second trip to keep stocking up!

One of the biggest things to remember is that you DO NOT have to have coupons to SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!  All these savings happened by just swiping the Club card and paying attention to the deals.  The store coupons that are printed at the register are always helpful, especially those catalinas.

I'm finally catching on!

Jenny shares her trip to Walgreens:

I had such an amazing day at Walgreens and definitely had to share.  My sister has always been quick to understand how register rewards (RR) work and how to maximize her savings there... I've been observing and reading her blog posts, and just patiently waiting to completely 'get it'.

Today (Thursday) it happened.  I GOT IT!

Before we went, i cut out my coupons for both Walgreens and from Sunday's paper.  I had a few big items that I wanted to get (razors and body wash).

I remember Lindsey telling me to use my RR items in a separate transaction so I can redeem the earned RR with the second transaction.

Here is what I did:
First I got all those RR items together:
Transaction #1--
* Schick razors (coupon for $2 off)
*Venus razor (earned RR for $4, + coupon for $3 off)
* Dove body soap (earned RR for $6, + coupon for $1.50 off)
* Olay body soap (free with the sunday paper coupon when I purchase any Venus razor),
* Pictureka game ($5 off coupon from online)

Total: $17.76     Saved: $25.24        RR earned: $10  

Transaction #2--  (warning: a bunch of junk food for weekend events haha!)
* Vday bags
* Gummy bears 
* 3 theater size candy
* gold fish
* 2 Dawn dish soap  (WAG coupon, $.99 each)
* 2 Lindsey olives (WAG coupon, $1.29 each)
* 5 Vday cups

Total: $16.41   Saved: $20.34   RR REDEEMED: $14.00    New Total: $2.41



Total with both transactions together I spent: $17.76+ $2.41=    $20.17

Isn't that SOOOO exciting?  I couldn't believe it, and am still VERY excited about it!

The key is to be organized and know what you want in each transaction.  They don't mind doing 2 separate transactions so you can redeem the RR right away.  It just makes more sense for us traveling so far just to hit these sales...

saved 60%: $47.43 for 24 items

I did use a register reward type thing- one for $3.50 and another for $1.50 from my last trip to Safeway (the disappointing one).  I probably would have been around 50% if I hadn't printed one coupon from coupons.com of each item they had available that I was planning to get.  You can use one paper coupon even if there are eCoupons of the same item on your card!

Savvy Saturday- Safeway shopping on 11/24

This might not look like much, but this was my best shopping trip ever!  I don't think I will ever be able to top it.  It was actually done in 2 transactions, by accident, but that ended up being the best idea!  The first transaction was everything but the 10 vitamin waters.  That came out to $96.37, but after the club card and paper coupons (found in the store) it was $70.18 and with eCoupons taken off, it came out to $24.31!  I also got a $5 register reward that I wasn't expecting, which I used on the vitamin water transaction, so that only ended up being $6 and change.  Total spent for these 42 items was $30.38!  


I did have some problems at the Mililani Safeway with the eCoupons but we called corporate so they can get that fixed.  Their manager admitted he had never even heard of the program!  We're going to stick to the Kaneohe store- things work so much better there and the store is laid out in a more common sense way.

Peanut Butter 2/$4 (I had a coupon if you bought 2 PB, you get free bread or $2 off bread- they didn't have any that were under $2, so I bought the bread for $1.69)

Safeway:

This was my biggest purchase, but the Sunday ad showed all these crazy extra coupons that I had never seen before but you also have to use the coupons, see the: (!):

Granola bars: $1.49 each (!)
Pineapple: 8/$10 + eCouponSpanish rice: 2/$4 + coupon from Sunday's paperRitz Crackers $4.99 each, B1G1 free + $1 off from Sunday's paperSaltines: $1.75 each (!)

Baby stuff:$24.99 Enfamil formula, with a $5 check from Enfamil and $5 register reward from previous formula purchaseHuggies or Pampers Jumbo size, $9.99 ea (!) plus the eCoupons and manufacturers coupons on top of that.  That is the best base price you can get on diapers, then I had $7.50 more off with eCoupons and $11 more in manufacturers coupons.  **Pull-ups were $17.99 and counted for the $9.99 base price deal, and got a $2 eCoupon and had a $3 manufacturers!  Started at $65.95 for all 5 packages, ended up at $33.45 or $6.69 per package!  Safeway is my favorite!Saved $88.99, spent 80.46  Overall: got $394.28 worth of groceries for $182.38.  If I printed coupons (you can do two of each item at coupons.com), I'm sure I could lower that.  Please convince me that printing all those coupons is worth it. But I don't want this site to be about clipping coupons even though it does save you money.  You need a good deal in effect before you even consider using the coupon!

So today was the first busy shopping for deals day! I wanted to see what results I would get from all the homework I did yesterday... So....(drum roll pleeeeeeease!)

In third place we have Longs which wasn't to shabby actually....

In Second Place.... is Walgreens! They had awesome holiday sales!

Spent: $35.70.... Saved: $19.98

In FIRST PLACE and my personal favorite.... SAFEWAY! I was lovin' the Chewy Granola bar sale, and the Rice Sides sale!! Can you believe I got a package of Jumbo Huggies for $5... with my manufacturer coupons, and ecoupons I saved, saved, saved!! Woohoo! So I had double of everything and Voila!! 2 Jumbo Huggies for $10!!

Spent: $48.29.... Saved: $27.20

I can't wait to see Linds' savings.... she was rockin! One thing to keep in mind is... don't buy what you don't need. I'm in 'start over' mode instead of stocking up mode... so I am a bit pickier about what I buy. Linds has quite the energetic growing household of boys, so her lists, finds, sales, and savings are awesome for her situation! Keep that in mind. Maybe I fit your type of shopping... or maybe you fit Linds' type of shopping... Eithe way you have two perspectives on the same thing!
